Taster Week
In July, we run a Headstart Focus week so that you can get a real taste of what being a systems engineer might be like.
You spend the week on a project simulating a real-life situation, experiencing the challenges and problems systems engineers face and trying out the strategies they adopt to find the best solutions. Working in groups and against tight deadlines, you put together a bid to provide a new fleet of frontline fighter aircraft to another country. Technical and operational decisions have to be made, trade-offs in performance and price weighed up and the social and political environment in which you are operating ignored at your peril. Were your decisions sound? Can you meet all the customer's requirements with the resources at your disposal at a competitive price? Will your group win the contract?
During the week you will also meet systems engineers, work with current students and sample university life.

Visiting Us
When making such an important decision as where to spend 4 or 5 years of your life, you have to feel happy and comfortable with the place. So, come and see us! We offer visits to all applicants, twice a year, when you can have a good look round campus (it's lovely!), see the facilities and meet staff and current students. If you want to visit before applying or if you cannot make the set dates, contact John Hooper and ask if an alternative time can be arranged.
Dates for prospective student day visit are on our main Visit us page.
